Q: Can I order a print or painting outside of the U.S.?

A: Due to the varying costs and complexities of international shipping, the option for shipping outside the United States isn't listed when buying from this site. However, I'm able to ship to just about any country as long as you're willing to cover the extra shipping fee on an individual basis via paypal. Depending on the country and the item being shipped, this cost is generally around $25-30. For a quote on the cost of shipping your desired purchase to your country, please email savannapj@heartslob.com, and include the subject line "international shipping" as well as the item(s) you're interested in buying and the country to ship to. If you'd then like to place the order, I'll send you an invoice through paypal and email the tracking information for the package to the email you contact me with. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Savanna Judd is an illustrator blending art with code, paint and paper with digital tools, and illustration with motion. In painting scenes, they seek to bend light, build atmosphere, and capture the liminal quality of a place alive in the absence of people. These places represent a threshold where humans pass and leave imprints or relics. They evoke the feeling of looking into a portal before entering.

Savanna received a BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art with a focus on immersive environments and experimental interactive narratives using animation and code. They love drawing gooey shapes.

Q: Do you do commissions?

A: Not at the moment! For general inquiries though, you can email savannapj@heartslob.com. (I don’t usually answer my DMs.)

Q: Will you make prints of [x artwork]?

A: Due to the nature of the giclee prints I make, and the process of color testing for accuracy and image quality, I have a limited selection of art pieces I’ll make prints of. I may also cycle out old artwork to replace with newer artwork. I base which prints I release on interest and the general enthusiasm a piece of art receives. I take comments and requests for prints into account, but in the end only a few images will make the cut.

Q: What type of paint do you use?

A: Usually acrylic. I don’t mix in any special mediums or use acrylic gouache or anything fancy. I gesso my surfaces before painting, which can help the paint go on smooth.

Q: What brand of paint do you use?

A: I’ve used a variety of brands of acrylic paint, and don’t have a particular one I like. I go to my local art supply store and pick what’s in my price range and is artist quality. I wouldn’t recommend stressing over paint brands, but rather experimenting and buying within your budget. I know it sounds kind of trite, but practice and skill will always be more valuable than the paint you buy.

Q: What paper/canvas do you use?

A: I like painting on smooth surfaces, like wood panels, boards, or mixed media paper. I don’t have a particular paper I recommend. As long as I prime my surface carefully, and flatten the paper if I need to, I can make most thick papers work for my type of painting.

Q: What do you use for digital art and animation?

A: Photoshop. I wouldn’t recommend it, Adobe is the bane of my existence.

Q: Do you use reference? Where do you find reference?

A: I take photos and videos in my day-to-day life, and I search on google images for specific references (i.e. a particular object or pose) while in the process of planning and sketching for an image. I tend to start with a concept or at least a vibe before seeking reference, but also have folders full of snippets I’ve collected from a lifetime of being on the internet to help generate ideas.

Q: How long did it take you to paint [x artwork]?

A: I try to keep individual artworks to 2-4 work days (16-32 hours). Feel free to ask me about a specific artwork, though I don't often keep close track of the time.

No Refunds, Unversed Comics

A 224 page, 2 color, softcover comics anthology featuring 14 artists. I created a self-contained comic for the anthology, and collaborated to carry out a successful kickstarter campaign to publish the work.

Who Is Kitty?, Savanna Judd

A hidden object game painted by hand in acrylic, then animated, then coded. Players navigate the events of a historical murder by finding objects and clues, exploring six rooms in a New York apartment building.

Howdy, Jacob!, Seedbolt Studios LLC

A dystopian hidden object game in which you play Chandler, the show-runner for a propaganda TV show. You and your puppet co-stars have been called in on a Saturday because the show has killed off another cabin boy, and you need to make sure the training program for the new actor is up to scratch. I created all backgrounds and objects as well as UI/UX design.
